Book Club!

This is such a well-written, non-fiction - reads like a novel - book I've read strictly for pleasure in such a long time. It is also the first non-fiction piece we've picked for our book club! Hmmm...yeah, that meeting's this friday...better get crackin'! Only half way done!

To read what the NY Times had to say about it, click here.

Na na na na...na na na...na na na na...na na na na na

That would be the theme to Indiana Jonas ... yes, I wrote Jonas, as sung by Stephen!

The kids and I went to see it last Friday - John with a group for a birthday party - Alex, Stephen and I sat wayyy awayyy from the party...we couldn't let him go see it and not go too!

Really fun, action packed movie! Not as great as the original, but they don't try and disguise the fact that Indy is pretty old now...but, the movie does give a lot of closure to the series! AND, they make up for anything it's missing by giving us super cute Shia La Beouf to faun over ;)

I admit it...I've become addicted to Harry Potter!

The kids and I started reading the Harry Potter series a month or so back as a result of a program that started in school called Parents As Reading Partners. All the children in the school were supposed to read a minimum of 20 minutes per night with an adult, log what they were reading and submit the sheet at the end of thirty days! One child from each classroom that finished their log would be picked to receive a Barnes and Noble Gift Card...Alex won!!!

Since then, we've been having such a blast! We made it a priority to read each and every night during the PARP, but we've now made it a priority to read every single day...hee hee we also watch each movie as a celebration after we finish a book.

We blew through book 2 already and we're in the middle of book 3 ... well, Alex and I are...John couldn't wait and finished book 3 on his own and is a quarter of a way through book 4! But, really, he's reading...how can I complain!

This is my friend...

Behind that tree ... with a chainsaw...(chainsaws SCARE ME!)
See the chainsaw...that's my friend cutting away without any fear or anxiety...we took down that pine tree that day - doesn't look very big - but it was ...about 4 stories tall...
See the kid...he and I pushed as she cut away...it felt so good to get such a huge thing done...even though it doesn't seem like much in the pictures ... it was! We then had to chop it all up and lug it to the curb!
My friend and I are so different in so many ways...but so alike in so many others...it's good to have such a good friend ;)
This is going to be part of a new series of posts! Doing something you're afraid of everyday!

Read me...open me...

I stumbled upon this idea whilst reading through comments on another blog I love...wow...I believe the kids and I really need to do this! You'll have to click the link to see what I mean ;)

Our Experimental Veggie Garden!

Since moving here almost seven years ago, we've planted some sort of garden...we even managed a little raised bed and some big pots of herbs last year due to the construction. This year...we're getting quite experimental! We're going for the unusual in our garden this time around. We'll have the basics, but...we're giving some new, refreshing ones a try! Lots of creeping, viney ones...

A small sampling of what we're attempting!
What is up with his picture face! ACK!
We started the seeds around 5/1...a little late...but better late than never!!!
